This, like "It's time...for SCIENCE" is another example of a piece that was specifically made to show off some little item I found in a junk bin. I was just so taken with how beautiful this little balance wheel was: functional and decorative all at the same time.
The backing is a combination of maple and walnut pieces, layered together and then dremeled into a concave shape. And I think I went a little nuts with the wire this time.
Oh I don't think you went nuts with the wire at all, it's perfect. Very much a fully functional steampunk mechanical device that you haven't QUITE figured out what it does yet...
That's a very good point! I'm tempted to go through my gallery and post some theories about what each piece was invented for. I've pretty much decided that "It's Time...for SCIENCE" is either a crystal synthesizing device that's powered by time, or a crystal-fueled refrigeration unit for watch parts. (They go stale if you don't keep them cool.)
Now I wish I had gone to that flea market we had recently if I knew I was going to find something as cool as this.
I like rifling through random boxes of everything too. It's fun. :3
