Watch Part Earrings - Cherry by Fandragon Watch Part Earrings - Cherry by Fandragon
Minor variation on the watch-part earrings I've made before. These use cherry wood, instead of maple, which means that they'll become more rose-colored the longer they're exposed to sunlight. Using cherry saves you the trouble of having to use a stain to darken the wood, but BOY is it tough to polish. Every single scratch might as well have been drawn in with a pen, and it takes a LONG time to sand everything smooth. Fortunately I had some nice gears and cogs to cover over the worst marks.

I love how you have those pieces of wood that go off to the side, it kind of makes the wood itself look mechanical somehow, it's always a neat, modern kind of effect.

Another bit of serendipity! When I sandwich the slice of walnut between the other wood, there's usually a little bit that sticks out on the sides. I generally sand it flat; this time I left it alone. Something to repeat, I think :)
