FML Choker or Collar

Description

Here's the story for this angry, rough-looking choker:

After some insightful comments from :iconllyzabeth: I was originally going to take the FML (faux typewriter keys, made from paper, lacquer, and some slightly rusted metal buttons), and pair them with a sweet/girly/happy-looking choker, maybe something with lace or rainbow sequins. Just to make people do a double-take at the combination.

Then our house got broken into; someone jimmied the back door, grabbed some things and ran for it. We're fine, the house is fine, the CATS are fine (that was the really important thing), new locks are installed, everything's okay. Most of what got grabbed can be replaced with minimal effort and some insurance money. But not all of it. My husband lost a rare old camera that he was really fond of. And I can't find the necklace I finished the day before the break-in. The necklace obviously wasn't worth all that much (it's one of my "stuff on a chain" necklaces like this [link] , only with a typewriter key "S" instead of a watch face), and I can't say for TOTAL certainty that I didn't just set it down someplace. But it bugs me that it's gone, and it bugs me that if it WAS stolen, the person who grabbed it and my husband's camera wouldn't have had any idea what they were worth. Or care.

So I made an angry choker. As stated above, the typewriter keys are buttons. The clasp for the choker is actually the buckle and strap off of a fairly cheap watch (fake leather, but sturdy). The center strap, the metal loops that the watch straps are attached to and the chain are all part of my leather backpack-purse that fell apart a few days after the break-in. Nothing to do with the break-in, I'm just hard on purses.

I'd say this choker could comfortably fit a neck circumference of anywhere from 13 3/4 inches to 15 1/4, although there's space to punch a few more holes in the watch strap if you need it slightly bigger or smaller.

I think this piece may count as Dieselpunk, but I'm not familiar enough with that genre to know for sure. Possibly it's goth, or maybe industrial.

An excellent use of an old purse, and a great way to rant in an artistic fashion :)
