Faux Pocket-Watch 3

This was my second entry into the NC State Fair Craft Competition this year. I'd entered the "Jewelry: Mixed Media" competition thinking that I'd NEVER have enough time to finish my music stand, so I should at least have SOMETHING ready to go. And then a few days later I decided I'd kick myself for the next twelve months if I didn't finish the music stand as planned. Surprisingly, I managed to finish both pieces in time. And then won a Second Place ribbon for both of of them. Extra points!

I'm slowly improving these pocket watches. Like the Faux Pocket Watch 2, this one is walnut sandwiched between two pieces of maple. Unlike the previous pieces, I went ahead and cut a one-inch hole in a piece of maple with a power drill, and then carefully cut around the hole so I'd have a perfect circle for the front of the pendant. It's no more wasteful, and a heck of a lot faster, then digging out the recess for the watch parts by hand. Expect to see more of these in the future...
