In-Bed Computer Desk

Done and done! THIS would be the most ambitious project I've ever attempted. Here's how it happened...

My husband and I have a friend (affectionately referred to in his wife's blog as "Wheeler") who needed a rolling desk that he could use in bed, and it needed to be a desk that could tilt so he could type with his mouth-stick, and would I be willing to try making it?

My response? "Eep." And, "Sure!"

These are the same friends who commissioned me to carve the "Fisherman" piece in my gallery. They're getting VERY good at inspiring me to make things I never would have attempted on my own.

The plans came from this web site, [link] . Lot's of cool stuff there, and the plans for ergonomic and handicap-assessable projects are free! Tom, the man who runs the site, even customized the plans to include the tilt feature, and that was free as well.

In addition to the tilt feature, the desk is also on wheels, and the support rod is threaded, so the desk surface can be raised and lowered to whatever height needed. I may be the first person to attempt this particular model, so for now this is one of a kind.
